Virtues of Surah Mulk

Virtues of Surah Mulk

Some of the hadiths that have been recorded about the virtues of Surah Mulk are absolute, that is, there is no limitation of any specific time, while some hadiths mention reciting it at night, for example, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited Surah Mulk at night. He did not sleep without reading. Therefore, both kinds of hadiths will be followed in the case of reading at night.

It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہ) that one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah pitched a tent over a grave, and he did not know that it was a grave. A person in this grave is reciting Surah al-Mulk. He finished the entire surah while reading. This surah is a deliverer of punishment, saving him from the torment of the grave.

On the authority of Hazrat Abu Huraira (رضی اللہ عنہ), the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said: There is undoubtedly a Surah in the Qur’an which has thirty verses. He interceded for a person until he was forgiven. Surah al-Mulk.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (رضی اللہ عنہ) that the Prophet (ﷺ) would only sleep with reciting Surah Sajdah and Surah Malik.

Abu Hurairah narrates it (رضی اللہ عنہ) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There is a surah in the Holy Qur’an of thirty verses, which will intercede for the one who recites it until he is forgiven.” He will go. That Surah is “Tabarak Al-Dhi’i Baydah Al-Mulk”.

Hazrat Abdullah Bin Mas’ud Radiyallahu Ta’ala Anhu says, “Surah Al-Mulk will argue on behalf of its reciter until it will enter him into Paradise.”

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas narrates, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Indeed, I find a Surah in the Book of Allah that has thirty verses. Whoever recites it while he sleeps.” If he does it, thirty good deeds will be recorded for him, his thirty sins will be erased, and his thirty degrees will be raised, and Allah will send an angel from among the angels to him who will spread his wings over him. And He protects that man from everything until he wakes up. That surah is “Mujadalah” (i.e., the disputant) which argues in the grave for its reciter and that surah Mulk.

The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: I wish that Surat Mulk should be in the heart of every believer.

It was narrated from Anas (رضی اللہ عنہ) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There is a surah in the Qur’an; that interceded for its companion until he was forgiven (and this surah is Surah Mulk)

It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Ibn Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہ) that he said to a person, “Should I not give you such a hadith as a gift that will please you?” The person said, “Why not, O Ibn Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہ)?” Ibn Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہ) said, “Surah Mulk, remember it verbally, and tell it to your family and all your children and your family.” And teach the children of the neighborhood. Indeed, this surah (تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِِِ المْلْكُ) is the deliverer, and this (تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِِِ المْلْكُ) is the one to contend to Lord on the Day of Resurrection for the one who recites to it. It seeks salvation from the fire of hell for the reciter and frees its companion from the torment of the grave.
