Question

If the police takes someone merchandise and secures it in the police station, then someone comes and convinces the police that he will take responsibility for returning the merchandise to its owner, but then sells it to someone else at a low price, would the merchandise be lawful for the buyer?

It is not permissible as per Shari'ah to purchase or sell items achieved in this manner. This must be avoided
