Tawaf consists primarily of Muslim Pilgrims’ Supplications, Du’a (،،which in most cases is an invocation, prayer, or supplication), and other personal prayers in the Holy Kaaba during Umrah rituals. They can pick Du’a and Supplications from the books of the Holy Quran and Hadith. Pilgrims conduct different du’a based on teachings and practices from the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Muslims can learn Du’a for the Ihram cloth during their plan for Umrah and during Tawaf.

ToggleDua for Tawaf: Authentic Sunnah and Hadith
Every pilgrim embarking on an Umrah trip brings with him a desire, a wish which can be accomplished only by Allah Almighty Himself. During this religious retreat, they bring their wishes to Him with an attitude of utmost humility, because He alone is “The Best Listener,” who listens to them in His favour and grace. For instance, for the Muslims in the UK, a wish fulfilled in a distant country with a neatly organised Umrah Package schedule holds a different significance because this attempt itself is an offering to Him.
Being in front of the “House of Allah,” the Muslim is nonplussed with himself, powerless, relying solely on God’s grace. Such a critical moment in life is an occasion when, by selecting a “Dua” from the Quran and Sunnah to recite during Tawwaf, one can achieve greater focus and make this ritual of pilgrimage an enriching experience.
Understanding the Importance of Dua During Tawaf
In Islam, Du’a is the reality of worship. With the performance of Tawaf, one’s heart feels soft; one forgets less, and a Muslim is most mentally present in front of Allah. Even though Muslims have learned a lot of wishes in their hearts, it is important to point out that, in practice, Islam in reality does not want Muslims to utter a single du’a in the performance of the Tawaf ritual. Based on Sunnah, Muslims must focus on being flexible and present mentally in the heart. To Muslims in the UK, especially to the new freshmen who finished their Umrah Visa requirements to do Umrah, this will bring a massive impact.
Can a different Dua be recited in each round in case of Tawaf?
There is no genuine Hadith which quotes a specific dua in each round of Tawaf. This piece of information is significant, and this is true insofar as it is supported by scholars. You can recite any dua, you can put up your own supplication in your own language, or you can simply think in your Tawaf. Such flexibility is quite assuring for Muslims in the UK, who are trapped in a press of people and an atmosphere of emotions in an oven-like setting where ease and sincerity are highly valued in Islam.
Dua and Rukn Yamani, and Hajr
The most suitable and righteous dua, which is recited during Tawaf is between Rukn Yamani and Black Stone.
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us in this life as well as in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of Fire. (2:201)
This dua is found in Sahih Hadith, and this dua used to be chanted by our Great Prophet constantly in Tawaf. This dua not only comprises qualities of being short and powerful, but it is all-inclusive, thus can be used by all AGE groups.
Personal supplications during Tawaf
Apart from this whole-hearted supplication, in Tawaf with your personal dua, you can pray for forgiveness, guidance, good health, happiness in your family, success, or relief in your problem situations from Allah. However, this is a golden chance for Muslims in the UK to pray for such problems when they are living in a minority: “Islam for the kids, halal ways of making a livelihood, oneness in the ummah, and protection from persecution.” God knows all languages and all emotions.
Can Dua in English be performed in Tawaf?
Of course, yes. Actually, there are people who have stated that a dua can be written in whatever language you want, especially if it is a personal plea. Go for English if it will help you phrase your feelings better.
Mercy and not restriction is the hallmark of an Islamic religion. To Allah, it is not linguistic accuracy but sincerity which matters.
Dhikr Recommended When Doing Tawaf
The remembrances of which are generally read, explained below, are those based on General Sunnah, except for Dua:
- SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
- Alhamdulillah (All praise is for Allah)
- Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
- La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
Conclusion
Tawaf is a blend of motion and meditation, your body in motion and your heart in front of Allah. The Sunnah tells us to keep it this way: “Recite the right dua from Rukn Yamani to Hajr E Aswad,” “Make your own dua,” and “Remember Allah with righteousness.” Tawaf is not an event for Muslims in the UK, but it is a return of your soul after an incredible journey that comprises both distance and the efforts put in. May your steps, dua, and tears all reach our righteous Lord in front of this honourable structure named “The House of Allah .” Ameen.
