Islam is a religion of mercy

Islam is a Religion of Mercy

Islam is the only religion in the world that teaches peace, safety, brotherhood, and tolerance. It eliminates the distinction between the rich and the poor, granting every person their due rights. Not only humans but even animals have been given their rights. Islam has granted minorities their rights as well, completing society through the true and perfect religion. Undoubtedly, the religion that is most beloved to Allah is Islam. Islam seeks peace, safety, and well-being for all human beings and every living creature. Its radiant teachings are filled with ease, goodness, and virtue. They bring benefits in this world and ensure success and prosperity in the everlasting life of the hereafter.

The society where Islam emerged, and where Allah revealed it for the well-being and guidance of humanity, was engulfed in all forms of evil. The Prophet Muhammad () worked tirelessly by Allah’s command to enlighten people about the mysteries of life and the purpose of creation. Allah, the Creator and Owner of the entire universe, introduced Himself to humanity, purified their hearts and minds, and taught them lessons of peace and safety. Through the Prophet’s efforts, the well-known tribes of Aws and Khazraj, who had been at war for centuries, became close friends. They transformed from enemies into symbols of love and brotherhood, protecting each other.

This wave of love wasn’t limited to Arabia but spread across the world in a short time, and the whole world began to benefit from the blessings of Islam. The message of love spread globally, erasing the distinctions of tribe, race, language, and nationality. Islam eliminated the differences between the wealthy and the poor, and both classes began to live peaceful lives. Wherever Muslims entered as conquerors, they brought peace, safety, and well-being, sharing in the sorrows and joys of the people. As a result of Islam’s teachings of peace and safety, even those who had previously opposed it were eventually guided by its universal message, and their hearts were illuminated by its light.

Before Islam, the world was in darkness, ruled by oppression and cruelty. There was no concept of peace or safety. Mankind was divided into countless groups based on race, language, and nationality, and these groups clashed so severely that humanity cried out in pain. History reveals that the world was filled with unrest before the arrival of Islam. Although many religious leaders and moral systems preached peace and love in their ways, they could not extinguish the global flames of conflict. Islam was the first to formally present a message of peace and love, introducing a lasting moral code known as Islam itself, meaning eternal peace and security. This distinction belongs to no other religion. Islam opened a new chapter of peace and security on solid foundations, and the modern trend towards peace is largely due to Islamic teachings.

The Quran has declared Prophet Muhammad () a mercy for all worlds. Allah says, “And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya) In Surah Al-Ahzab, Allah states, “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah, you have an excellent example.” The Prophet’s life serves as the perfect model in every aspect, including beliefs, worship, ethics, social dealings, politics, and economics. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I am a mercy from Allah, sent to you.” Islam not only acknowledges the religious matters of all people but also provides them with the right guidance and invites them to God’s system so that they may attain peace and tranquility in this world and a serene life in the hereafter.

Islam teaches respect for all prophets and religious leaders, commanding kindness, generosity, and wisdom. The Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad () are beacons of peace and safety, offering a roadmap for humanity today. In a world striving for tolerance, peace, and harmony among religions, people must look to Islam and the Prophet’s exemplary life for guidance, as these teachings truly ensure respect for humanity and lasting peace.

Islam places immense value on human life, equating the unjust killing of a single soul to the killing of all humanity. It protects the lives, wealth, and honor of non-Muslim minorities living in Muslim lands, granting them freedom to practice their religion. Islam prohibits oppression and even discourages exceeding limits when responding to oppression, establishing fair and just rules for retribution. This is the only religion that emphasizes peace and safety in all matters, ensuring that neither one suffers nor causes harm to others. The Prophet () said, “Whoever helps someone in distress, Allah will forgive them, and just one forgiveness will suffice to rectify all their affairs.” Indeed, Islam encourages mercy and compassion towards not only Muslims but all of humanity.

Thus, Allah commands, “Do good to others as Allah has done good to you.” Islam promotes tolerance, kindness, civility, and decency. The Prophet () declared that the first condition of worshipping Allah is to treat His creation with kindness. “If you want to worship Allah, you must first love His servants.” When Islam began to spread and the Prophet presented the complete code of life, it brought a new lease on life to oppressed humanity. Islam established peace and security on solid, practical foundations—an honor no other religion possesses. Allah says, “Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.”

Before Islam, the respect for human life that it brought had never even been imagined. Human life was worth less than an animal, but Islam honored it so highly that Allah declared in the Quran, “Whoever kills a soul without right, it is as if they have killed all of humanity. And whoever saves a life, it is as if they have saved all of humanity.” This highlights the mercy, completeness, and peace inherent in Islam’s teachings, showing it as a religion of mercy, the perfect and divine religion.

Islam has no room for oppression or cruelty. It teaches only peace, safety, patience, love, and harmony.
