TogglePleasing Allah is the Most Important Thing
“وَتُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ (Surah An-Nur: 31)”
“And O believers, turn to Allah in repentance so that you may be successful.”
Imam Ibn Qayyim (رحمة الله عليه) said that the best day in a person’s life is the day they sincerely repent to Allah. It is mentioned in a narration that when a servant repents to Allah, an angel announces, “So-and-so has made peace with their Lord.” When a person has a sincere friend, and they become upset with each other, the person tries in various ways to make amends, to restore the friendship. Allah is even more deserving of being pleased than any friend, so when you do something that causes unease in your heart due to your love for Allah, you should try in every way to please your Lord—just as you would strive to make amends with a worldly beloved. Give charity, seek forgiveness, perform voluntary prayers, or recite the Quran. If a good person is easily pleased, what do you think of Allah, who is the Most Merciful of all?
Have a Good Assumption About Allah:
“قرة عين لي ولك. (Surah Al-Qasas:9)”
“A comfort for me and for you.”
These were the words of Lady Asiya to her husband, Pharaoh, regarding Prophet Musa (عَلَیهِالسَّلام). In response, Pharaoh said, “This child may be a comfort for you, but I have no need for him.” Commenting on this, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“By the One in whose name oaths are taken, if Pharaoh had also accepted Musa as a comfort for him, just as his wife Asiya did, Allah would have granted him guidance just as He granted her. But Allah withheld guidance from Pharaoh.”
In many situations, future outcomes are influenced by the words you speak, so always assume goodness, and goodness will come to you. If a person starts a new job with the belief that it will bring bad luck, then it will likely bring misfortune. If someone enters a marriage with the mindset that they’ve made a bad deal, then it’s likely to turn out that way. Shape your thoughts, assumptions, and words in a positive way, because sometimes a person falls into trouble simply due to their own words.
The Condition of Most People:
“قل الحمد لله بل أكثرهم لا يعقلون. (Surah Al-Ankabut: 63)”
“Say, all praise is for Allah, but most of them do not use reason.”
If you examine how Allah describes most people in the Quran, you’ll find that they are described as:
- La Ya’lamoon – They do not know.
- La Yashkuroon – They are not grateful.
- La Ya’qiloon – They do not use reason.
In Contrast, Allah Almighty Says:
“وقليل من عبادي الشكور. (Surah Saba: 13)”
“And few of My servants are grateful.”
Therefore, do not be overly concerned with people. Fulfill the rights they have over you, but seek your rights from Allah Almighty.
Imam Ahmad (رحمة الله عليه) asked Hatim (رحمة الله عليه) how a person can avoid the harm of others. Hatim replied:
“Spend on them from your wealth, but never take anything from theirs. If they harm you, do not retaliate.”
Imam Ahmad responded, “This is very difficult.” Hatim said, “Then you may never be able to avoid their harm.”
