Summary of Surah Al-Mursalat

The Surah Al-Mursalat is a Makki Surah, and it consists of 50 verses and 2 sections. In the beginning of this Surah, it is stated in five oaths that what has been promised to you will certainly happen. This refers to the Day of Judgment and the reckoning that will take place. There will be no escape from it. After this, the Surah describes the signs that will occur close to the Day of Judgment. The stars will lose their light, the heavens will be torn apart, mountains will be shattered, and the Messengers will be brought at their appointed time.

The Day of Judgment is called “Yawm Al-Fasl” by Allah because on that day, a decision based on justice and fairness will be made among His creation. After designating it as the Day of Fasl (decision), Allah mentions regarding its postponement: “Wailu yawma’idhin lil-mukaththibiin” (Woe, that Day, to the deniers). This verse and these words are repeated ten times in this Surah to instill fear and awe.

Furthermore, this Surah mentions the previous nations of wrongdoers who were destroyed by Allah, and it questions the disbelievers, asking if they were not created from insignificant water. Then, it describes the stages of human creation, from a humble beginning to a beautiful form. It also provides evidence that Allah, who created the earth and the heavens, has the power to bring the dead back to life.

In the concluding verses, a warning is given to the wrongdoers, urging them to taste and enjoy their worldly pleasures briefly because their ultimate fate is destruction and punishment, and there is nothing beyond that for them.
