The virtues of Hassan and Hussain

Performing the Aqiqah on behalf of the Prophet ﷺ, by Hassan and Hussain

Sayyidna Abdullah ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه), narrates:

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Buraidah, from his father, that: the Messenger of Allah offered the ‘Aqiqah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain. (Sunan an-Nasa’i 4213)

You, peace and blessings be upon him, blessed Hasan and Husain, may Allah be pleased with them, with a special supplication

The Noble Prophet, may peace be upon him, also specifically sought refuge for Hasan and Husain, may Allah be pleased with them, by reciting the words of refuge. He used to instruct them, saying that their forefather, Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, also sought refuge for his two sons, Isma’il and Ishaq, with these words. The Prophet, may peace be upon him, said, “I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from every devil, harmful creature, and evil eye.” (Sahih al-Bukhari: 3371)

Ummul Momineen, Sayyidah Aisha (رضي الله عنها), narrates

Allah the Almighty granted Hassan and Hussain (رضي الله عنهما), the exalted status of perfect purity and sanctity

The Noble Prophet (ﷺ), came out one morning and had a black cloak with black stripes spread out. Hassan, may Allah be pleased with him, came, and you brought him under the cloak. Then Husain (رضي الله عنه), came, and you brought him under the cloak. After that, Fatimah (رضي الله عنها), came, and you brought her under the cloak. Then Ali (رضي الله عنه), came, and you brought him under the cloak. Then, the Prophet (ﷺ), recited this blessed verse: “O People of the House! Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet’s] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.” (Quran, 33:33) [Sahih Muslim: 2424]

O Allah! These are my Ahlul Bayt Sayyidna Saad ibn Abi Waqas (رضي الله عنه), narrates:

Narrated ‘Amir bin Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas: from his father, saying “Mu’awiyah bin Abu Sufyan ordered Sa’d, saying ‘What prevented you from reviling Abu Turab?’ He said: ‘Three things that I remember from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prevent me from reviling him. That I should have even one those things is more beloved to me than red camels. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) speaking to ‘Ali, and he had left him behind in one of his battles. So ‘Ali said to him: “O Messenger of Allah! You leave me behind with women and children?” So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: “Are you not pleased that you should be in the position with me that Harun was with Musa? Except that there is no Prophethood after me?” And on the Day of (the battle of) Khaibar, I heard him saying: “I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.” So we all waited for that, then he said: “Call ‘Ali for me.” He said: ‘So he came to him, and he had been suffering from Ramad (an eye condition), so he (ﷺ) put spittle in his eye and gave the banner to him, then Allah granted him victory. And when this Ayah was revealed: ‘Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women…’ (3: 61) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called ‘Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husain and said: “O Allah, these are my family.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3724)

Under the special upbringing of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)

Sayyidna Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه), narrates:

Abu Huraira told that al-Hasan b. ‘All took one of the dates of the sadaqa and put it in his mouth, whereupon the Prophet said, “Leave it alone, leave it alone,” in order that he might throw it away. He then said, “Do you not know that we* do not eat the sadaqa?’
(Bukhari and Muslim.)
* The pronoun includes the Prophet and his family, al Hasan being his grandson. The idea is more definitely expressed in ‘Abd al-Muttalib’s tradition. (Mishkat al-Masabih 1822)

My son is a Sayyid

Sayyidna Abu Bakr said:

Abu Bakrah said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the Minbar, and Al-Hasan was with him. He would turn to the people sometimes and turn to him (Al-Hasan) sometimes, and he said: ‘This son of mine is a leader (Sayyid) and Allah may make peace between two large groups of Muslims through him. (Sunan an-Nasa’i 1410)

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) kissed the faces of Hassan and Hussain

Sayyidna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:

When the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) came to us, both Hassan and Hussain were with him. One of them was riding on one shoulder, and the other on the other shoulder, and the Prophet was kissing both of them alternately.” Source: Musnad Ahmad: 9673, Qala Al-Arnout: Hasan Hadith

Hasan and Husayn are the two flowers in my worldly garden

Ibn Abi Nu’aim reported that someone inquired from Sayyidna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the rules of Ihram (the sacred state during Hajj or Umrah), and he replied, “I think he asked me about killing flies.

People inquire about the ruling regarding killing bees in Iraq, even though they were the ones who killed the grandson (Husayn) of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him). However, the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “They (Hasan and Husayn, may Allah be pleased with them) are the two flowers of my worldly garden.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari: 3543]

Whoever loves me should also love Hasan and Husayn.Sayyidna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever loves me must also love these two (Hasan and Husayn).”

This hadith is reported in Sunan al-Kubra by al-Nasa’i, Hadith number 18170, and it is classified as “Hasan” (good) by Sheikh Al-Albani. It signifies that loving Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) is an integral part of loving the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Sayyidna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Whoever loves Hasan and Husain, loves me; and whoever hates them, hates me.'” (Sunan Ibn Majah 143)

For the sake of those jinn, you had to descend from your pulpitsays Syedna Abu Bakr.

The Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, was delivering a sermon to us when suddenly Hassan and Hussain, may Allah be pleased with them, came forward. They were wearing red-colored shirts, and due to their young age, they were stumbling as they walked. Upon seeing them, the Prophet, peace be upon him, descended from the pulpit, picked up both of them, and placed them in front of himself. Then, he said, “Indeed, Allah the Almighty guides through these (children). Surely, your wealth and your children are but a trial. I saw these two children stumbling, and I could not bear it until I interrupted my speech and picked them up.” [Reported in Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3774, authenticated by Al-Albani as Sahih.]

Those who would ride on the back of the Prophet, peace be upon him, during prayerSyedna Abu Huraira himself narrates:

The Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, was performing the ‘Isha prayer, and when he went into prostration, Hassan and Hussain mounted his blessed back. When he raised his head from prostration, he gently placed them behind him on the ground. When he again went into prostration, the two young princes did the same, and this continued until he completed the prayer. Afterward, he placed them on his blessed thighs. [Musnad Ahmad: Hadith 10659, and Al-Arna’ut classified its chain as Hasan.]

Those who would touch your body, peace be upon him

Say our master Osama bin Zaid, may Allah be pleased with him:

Narrated Usamah bin Zaid: “I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) one night concerning some need, so the Prophet (ﷺ) came out while he was covering up something, and I did not know what it was. Once I had tended to my need, I said: ‘What is this that you were covering up?’ So he uncovered it, and I found it was Hasan and Husain [peace be upon them] upon his hips. So he said: ‘These are my two sons, and the sons of my daughter. O Allah! Indeed, I love them, so love them, and love those who love them.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3769)

The leaders of the youthful inhabitants of Paradise

It is narrated from our master Syedna Abu Sa’id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Hasan and Husain will be the leaders of the youth of Paradise, and their father is better than them.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 118)
